After more than 37 years in the cockpit, United captain Peter Weber flew his retirement flight with a very special first officer seated beside him: his son, also named Peter. We were there to capture the whole extended trip: the last walk-around, the handoff between generations, and a landing that meant a little more than most (the younger Peter Weber described his dad’s final landing as a “perfect greaser,” which is pilot speak for super smooth).

Some stories you just have to be in the room (or the cockpit) for. This was one of them. It went on to be United’s most-watched social piece of the year.
